Composite (White) Fillings
Keeping smiles white and bright.
What Are Composite White Fillings?
Composite white fillings are a great way to fix cavities and minor tooth damage while keeping your smile looking natural. They’re made from a mix of plastic and fine glass particles and are designed to match the colour of your teeth perfectly.
Benefits of Composite White Fillings
- Blend Right In: These fillings match your tooth colour, so they’re practically invisible.
- Versatile Use: They work well for both front and back teeth.
- Strong and Long-Lasting: They bond tightly to your tooth, making them sturdy and durable.
- Less Drilling: They often require less removal of your natural tooth structure compared to other types of fillings.
- Quick and Convenient: You usually get them done in just one visit to the dentist.
The Filling Process
- Getting Ready: Your dentist will numb the area around the tooth to keep you comfy.
- Cleaning Up: The decayed part of the tooth is removed, and the area is cleaned thoroughly.
- Filling In: The composite material is applied in layers, with each layer hardened by a special light.
- Final Touches: The filling is shaped to fit your tooth perfectly and polished to blend in with the rest of your teeth.
Caring for Your Composite Fillings
- Keep Brushing and Flossing: Maintain your usual oral hygiene routine to keep your fillings and teeth in top shape.
- Regular Check-Ups: Visit your dentist regularly to make sure your fillings are holding up well.
- Be Gentle with Your Teeth: Avoid chewing on very hard or sticky foods that could damage your fillings.
- Stay Alert: If you notice any changes in your fillings, like chipping or discomfort, see your dentist.
Why Composite Fillings Are Awesome
- They Look Great: They blend in with your natural tooth color, so your smile stays beautiful.
- Less Invasive: Less drilling means more of your natural tooth is preserved.
- Extra Support: They bond well to the tooth, giving it extra strength.
When to Get Composite Fillings
- For Cavities: Perfect for filling cavities, especially those in visible areas.
- Minor Fixes: Great for repairing chipped, cracked, or worn teeth.
- Updating Old Fillings: They can replace old metal fillings for a more natural look.
How Long Do They Last?
Composite fillings can last many years, typically between 5 to 10 years, with good care. Their lifespan can vary based on factors like the size and location of the filling, your oral hygiene habits, and your diet.
