Restoring Teeth and Improving Aesthetics
What Are Dental Dentures?
Dental dentures are like a magical solution for missing teeth, helping you bring back that beautiful smile! They are removable replacements for missing teeth, designed to look and function just like your natural ones. The information below will let you know all about dentures.
Types of Dentures
Complete Dentures
Ideal if you’ve lost all your teeth.
-
- Conventional: These are ready to go after your gums heal from tooth removal.
- Immediate: These go in right away after your teeth are removed, but might need adjustments as your mouth heals.
Partial Dentures
Perfect if you still have some natural teeth left. They latch onto your existing teeth to fill in the gaps.
Implant-Supported Dentures
These stay firmly in place thanks to dental implants in your jawbone, giving you extra stability and confidence.
Benefits of Dentures
- Boost Your Appearance: They can restore your smile and give you an excellent look.
- Improve Speech: Dentures can help you speak more clearly.
- Enjoy Eating Again: Chewing becomes easier, so you can savour your favourite foods.
- Support Your Face: Dentures help keep your facial muscles in place, preventing that sunken look that can come with missing teeth.
Getting Dentures
- First Visit: Our dentist will check your mouth and chat with you about the best denture options.
- Impressions: They’ll take moulds of your mouth to create dentures that fit just right.
- Trial and Adjustments: You’ll try a model first to ensure a good fit and look, and adjustments will be made.
- Final Fitting: Your new dentures will be placed, and any last tweaks will be done to make sure they’re perfect.
Taking Care of Your Dentures
- Clean Daily: Brush your dentures with a brush and mild soap or cleaner—skip the toothpaste, as it can be too harsh.
- Soak Overnight: Keep them in water or a soaking solution (1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water) when you’re not wearing them.
- Rinse After Meals: A quick rinse keeps them clean and fresh.
- Keep Your Mouth Clean: Brush your gums, tongue, and palate every day to keep your mouth healthy.
Getting Used to Dentures
- Practice Talking: Read out loud and repeat difficult words to get comfortable speaking with dentures.
- Start with Soft Foods: Ease into chewing by starting with softer foods cut into small pieces.
- Be Patient: It might take a few weeks to fully adjust to your new dentures. If they’re uncomfortable, don’t hesitate to see your dentist for adjustments.
Our 5-Step Denture Procedure
At King Street Dental, we offer safe, comfortable and reliable treatment to our patients. Our dentists have performed countless denture replacements and fittings successfully and gained acute satisfaction from being able to help their patients chew, smile, and talk easily again.
We offer a simple 5-step denture procedure that begins with a patient’s initial consultation and taking their first oral impression. After your dentures are produced, our dentist will remove your tooth/teeth and fit your dentures right away.
After two weeks, our dentists will review your dentures and examine the healing process. Then, after three to six months, we will adjust and reline your dentures to make sure they remain effective and comfortable. Lastly, your dentures will require to be replaced every 8-10 years on average, specifically when your facial structure starts to change as you grow older..
