Implants
New teeth to last a lifetime
What Are Dental Implants?
Think of dental implants as a sturdy foundation for your new, beautiful teeth. They’re tiny titanium posts that go into your jawbone, acting like roots for replacement teeth. They look, feel, and work just like your natural teeth!
Benefits of Dental Implants
- Natural Look and Feel: They blend in perfectly with your real teeth, letting you chew and speak comfortably.
- Long-Lasting: With proper care, these can last decades, or often a lifetime.
- Prevent Bone Loss: They help keep your jawbone strong and healthy, preventing bone loss that happens when teeth are missing.
- Stay Put: Unlike dentures, implants stay in place, so no slipping or clicking.
- Protect Your Teeth: Implants don’t harm neighbouring teeth, keeping your mouth healthy.
The Implant Journey
- Consultation: Your dentist will check your mouth, take X-rays, and talk with you about the best implant options.
- Surgery: The implant is placed into your jawbone. Over the next few months, it will bond with the bone in a process called osseointegration.
- Abutment: Once the implant is secure, a small connector called an abutment is placed on top.
- Crown: Finally, a custom-made crown (your new tooth) is attached to the abutment. It will blend perfectly with your natural teeth.
Taking Care of Your Implants
- Good Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss regularly to keep your implants and gums healthy.
- Regular Dental Visits: Keep up with your regular check-ups and cleanings to ensure your implants are doing great.
- Be Gentle: Avoid biting into very hard or sticky foods that could damage your implants.
- No Smoking: Smoking can affect how well your implants heal and last.
Who Can Get Dental Implants?
Most people with healthy gums and enough jawbone are good candidates. Sometimes, you might need extra procedures like:
- Bone Grafting: If you don’t have enough bone, a graft can help build up a solid base for the implant.
- Sinus Lift: If your upper jaw needs more bone or space, a sinus lift can make room for implants.
Recovering from Implants
- Mild Discomfort: You might feel some discomfort, swelling, or bruising after surgery. Over-the-counter pain relievers usually help.
- Soft Foods: Stick to soft foods and avoid hot drinks right after the surgery.
- Follow-Up: Your dentist will want to see you for follow-ups to make sure everything is healing well.
Our 5-Step Denture Procedure
At King Street Dental, we offer safe, comfortable and reliable treatment to our patients. Our dentists have performed countless denture replacements and fittings successfully and gained acute satisfaction from being able to help their patients chew, smile, and talk easily again.
We offer a simple 5-step denture procedure that begins with a patient’s initial consultation and taking their first oral impression. After your dentures are produced, our dentist will remove your tooth/teeth and fit your dentures right away.
After two weeks, our dentists will review your dentures and examine the healing process. Then, after three to six months, we will adjust and reline your dentures to make sure they remain effective and comfortable. Lastly, your dentures will require to be replaced every 8-10 years on average, specifically when your facial structure starts to change as you grow older..
